Oxford Comma

Not that we want every band to have testosterone cascading out of their armpits, of course, but Vampire Weekend are a bit wet aren’t they? On ‘Oxford Comma’ they’re sweet, melodic and pleasantly tooty in a Rugrats theme tune kind of way and though we applaud their warm geekiness in writing about punctuation, a little more beefiness wouldn’t go amiss.

NME really is turning into a pint and packet of crisps, pub-rock boring boring magazine isnt it? Vampire Weekend are slated yet Pigeon Detectives manage to slip through without much scathing? puuurlease....Think its time to hire some younger writers who do something other than spend their time listening to led zep and trying to learn beefy riffs on their new les paul

I second that motion jamesramm. NME seems to be leaning towards the less educated music fan lately. The kind who will instantly dismiss a song/band as bad by default because of its genre or "lack of beefiness" and listens to bland pub rock by numbers. More of this similar mentality in the review of "My Year In Lists" by Los Campesinos.

Vampire Weekend are just pure Talent. Lets look who seems to be winning all the awards these days. That would be good old 4 chords otherwise known as Arctic Monkeys. So based on Talent theyre better than them so they shouldnt get any slating thanks. (btw I love Arctic monkeys dont get me wrong) VW are amazing though. Lay Pigeon Detectives though they dont get nearly as much as they deserve theyre ace.

agreed. VW are a breath of fresh air amongst pigeon detectives and kooks style blandness.

Vampire Weekend sounds like a bunch of idiots seeking to become the next trendy artsy sound and it seems that only tasteless trendsters like them. I saw them at this years coachella festival and could not stand them and the lead singer's blabbering was even more unbearable than Chris Martin's stuttering bs.

little harsh NME but see where you're comin from, this is by far one of the weakest tracks on the album for me, if you want the real VW listen to Walcott, brilliant

I agree with jamesramm NME seems to be going down a very narrow one way street. The album is great & more original than Pigeon detectives.

I too am getting really bored with the borrishness of the pigeon detectives, the twang, the enemy etc but the nme is right this is the opposite extreme; sooooo twee.

jemie fullerton. shut up. just shut up. you do realise when writing a review you cant just be biased towards your own taste. berk. try taking into consideration how vampire weekend appeal to there fans. you dont always have to go to a gig to get more drunk than gazzer before rehab or get into moshpits, sometimes its time to relax. berk
