The White Stripes

The White Stripes

The White Stripes

Conquest

Not many bands could get away with covering a song over 50 years old and making it sound fresher than a daisy spritzed with Febreze, but then again, not many bands have Jack White as their frontman (let’s ignore The Raconteurs for a mo, eh?). ‘Conquest’ is a heavy, shriek-smothered mariachi stormer that makes Led Zep’s ‘Immigrant Song’ seem like it was made for lulling babies to sleep. It also features a South Of The Border trumpeter who was apparently found plying his trade in a Mexican restaurant in Nashville – soundtracks to stuffing your face with burritos don’t come much better.
