The Long Blondes

The Long Blondes

The Long Blondes

Century

When you’re from Sheffield you can cherrypick your influences and still sound like Sheffield. That’s why The Long Blondes have suddenly morphed into The Human League in full-on ice-disco mode and sound all the better for it. ‘Century’ is such a departure from anything they’ve ever tried before that it’s hard not to be impressed. Kate Jackson’s newly adopted dispassionate purr makes this sound like a sexy robot’s seduction technique, albeit one suffering a disturbing meltdown halfway through and screeching “WHITE! BLACK!” at you until you give up and go home. Kids, this is phenomenal.

Best song of the year so far, and you gave it a good review. Bless.
