The Dears: Ticket To Immortality

The Dears

The Dears

Canadians terrify lazy hacks

We don’t like it when bands progress, it makes our jobs far harder. Imagine our horror then as we slipped the new Dears single on, expecting to find another lost Smiths gem, only to be confronted by something not only fresh, but ambitious and sophisticated. In a panic we grappled for a new way to pigeonhole Murray Lightburn’s indie warriors and we came up with this: Elbow. It sounds a bit like Elbow. Oh it’s no use, this is a wonderful enormous, touching song in its own right. Using pretty much every instrument in the northern hemisphere, it builds not so much a wall of sound as an arsenal. An arsenal with a warm heart and a tear in its eye.
