Not to be confused with the other Ladyhawk who are knocking about right now – a hairy, rowdy bunch of brutes and no mistake – this Ladyhawke is a young Antipodean lass who, judged on the first 40 seconds or so of ‘Back Of The Van’, is out to be Cyndi Lauper for the American Apparel age. The gist of the song would appear to be that someone “set me on fire”, which NME warmly hopes is some sort of romantic metaphor rather than actual fact. On the bright side, mind, ‘Back Of The Van’ is twinkly, heart-racing ’80s pop that leaves its irony at the door.
