Foo Fighters : Times Like These
...making the best music of their career...
Terribly ironic that, amid all this hand-wringing over the legacy ofNirvana, the Foo Fighters are simply plugging in, turning it up, and making the best music of their career.
‘Times Like These’ namechecks Hüsker Dü> both lyrically - "I am a new day rising" screams Grohl - and sonically, firmly aligning itself with the pioneer spirit of melodic pop-hardcore circa ‘85.
It’s a road well-trod, but the Foo Fighters are undoubtedly the most qualified modern exponents: this propulsive, emotional four-minute alt-rock ephiphany matches its feedback scuzz with an unstoppable flurry of killer pop hooks. And Dave Grohl is still the soppiest rock god you ever did see.
