Coldplay : Blue room EP

Very [a]Nick Drake[/a]. Very English.

Jaw-droppingly obvious though their signing to Parlophone was, given their penchant for Tim/Jeff Buckley-esque epic glum, the woefully-bejumpered Coldplay nonetheless saunter up here with what may be the ideal debut single. Rather than doing anything so bold as 'announcing itself', instead 'The Blue Room EP' saunters into your consciousness with songs like 'Bigger Stronger' that appear at first to have no tunes at all, but quickly snag in your memory. Very Nick Drake. Very English. And reminiscent in quality and comforting familiarity of nothing so much as a very nice biscuit on top of a chest of drawers.
