Passion, passion, passion, but is that enough? There’s no doubt that And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead mean it – while cynics dismiss the Texas combo of being Sonic Youth for kids – anyone who has seen Jason Reece in action knows that the music courses through his veins like white-hot metal. His problem is that it’s sometimes a struggle to get it out. Hence ‘Another Morning Stoner’ – an irresistible but defiantly homeless guitar riff in desperate need of a song. Apart from a few agonised screams from Reece, there’s nothing here you’d really call a chorus and you’re left endlessly poised on the cusp of something amazing. They can keep us waiting but for how much longer?
