'Coronation Street' actor to release festive track

'Coronation Street' star Ian Reddington, who plays Vernon Tomlin in the soap, is set to go up against The Wombats in the fight for this year's Christmas Number One single.

The actor is set to release '(Don't Fall Into) The Mason’s Arms', which his character sings on the show to try and persuade his wife Liz McDonald to get back with him.

The words were written by one of the soap's scriptwriters, and the music was composed by Scouting for Girls' singer Roy Stride.

NME.COM revealed last week (September 18) that The Wombats would also be taking a shot at this year’s Christmas Number One with track 'Is It Christmas?' to raise money for MENCAP, and wanted to recruit Les Dennis to help them out.
