Red Hot Chili Peppers disbanding: 'The last album was shocking!'

Fans comment on the band's hiatus

Music fans have commented on Red Hot Chili Peppers' decision to temporarily disband.

Fans of the band posting on NME.COM widely believe that the hiatus is necessary for the band to regroup, with many slamming the group's performance at Reading Festival last year.

One fan, Andyg1983, said: "Hopefully they will come back with something different, it's been needed – the last album was shocking!"

Guiltypleasure applauded the decision, saying: "I think its a good thing they've decided to have a break. 'Stadium Arcadium' was not the best they've produced. They need a bit of breathing space and they might come back with better material and smaller egos."

Jkap123 speculated on another reason for the break, stating: "They're probably just bored and want to move on. Plus, the prospect of getting back together in 10 years and making millions from a reunion album and tour is probably appealing."

Some fans were saddened by the decision, however, with Gaz_Blanchard99 saying: "I think people seem to forget that RHCP have arguably the most talented guitarist and bassist in the world. The band may not be everyone's cup of tea but the musicianship involved is second to none."

Likewise, Underclasshero said: "'Stadium Arcadium' was still a pretty amazing follow-up to 'By The Way'."

They have definitely come to a stalemate on the creative front and seem to relying on their unique sound to carry them through. They need a new angle and a break could well create that.

I have to say, I love RHCP and I liked Stadium Arcadium, however their performance at Reading last year was shocking, they were the only band that all in our group hadnt seen and we were all left disappointed and deflated. Hopefully, this will be the break they need.

I personally thought the 20 minute funk jam at reading was an inspiring way of drawing the crowds attention away from the fact that all of there new stuff didnt cut it at all with the exception of 'danni california' and 'tell me baby'. I also hope they come back with a fresh sound and shorter album.

To come out and say that the last album was "shocking" is a ridiculous statement as it showed a band that were at the height of their creative abilities and able to pull off just about anything musically, and having the world's best guitarist and bassist isn't bad to have either! Yes, in comparison it wasn't as good as "by the Way" or "Califorication", but they are two records that will go down as all time greats in the music industry.Their performance at the Reading Festival was dogged with sound problems admittedly but it was still a worthy headlining concert and those who complained that they didn't hear particular songs should learn that they are not there to dictate the setlist. I am positive that this is not the end of the chili's, but if a year or even more out is what they need to recover then by all means I am pleased they are doing it as it give them time to regroup and come back with another great album

I find some of these comments laughable to be honest. I thought Stadium Arcadium was there best album yet, two disks of pure quality, great music, brilliant songwriting and Pure Funk Power at it's finest, I thought they were excellent at Reading as well, Some people deary me :)

sorry troops i cant agree with that at all, anyone who says they should spilt is tripin. They are all such clever musicians, fair enough the dont f*ck about as much but they dont need to, Stadium Arcadium is so good, some of the lyrics and solos and just fucking rediculously good, so no. Go back and listen to it again and if its still not doing it the fuck off back to muse.

They have been making fantastic records for 20 years! Thats like as long as i've been alive! They have familys and lives to live so i think its a good idea they have disbanded for a while. Hopefully John will do some soul searching and bring out some more brilliant solo records! As for everyone saying 'its about time' screw you! Go off and worship your shitty indie bands, rock wouldnt be the same if it wasn't for the likes of the chili peppers, they are worshipped in the rock world and maybe they will come back with something fantatic and different but i would be quite happy with a re-recorded 'blood sugar sex magic' myself!

I'm not sure what the big deal is. He said that they decided to have a rest at the end of their last tour, which was August 2007, and that it will be for a minimum of 1 year. So doesn't that mean that they could regroup around September to write new songs? Chill out, they haven't called it a day yet!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are true rock gods. They never sold out, became a lame pop band. This kind of music lasts FOREVER. If they want to take a break.. fine. I hope they come back sooner rather than later. Remember people, RHCP are people too. Taking time off is great, quality family time! They deserve it!Music like theirs is one of a kind. They have true, natural TALENT. Look at the absolute crap that people listen to now.. Crazy frog anyone? that was the worst thing that i have EVER heard and people still bought it. And Operator Please? TERRIBLE! I could list hundeds upon hundreds of bands that come no where near the quality of RHCP.I for one hope that The Chilies come back, I would love to see them live. To have been at the Slane Castle performance would have been an honour. The DVD is the closest thing that I have to this experience! If you dont like their music, at least appreciate their talent.

i can't believe that bloke thought stadium arcadium was shocking!!! I love it, frusciante in stadium arcadium is so amazing!Me thinks people are looking to complain for no reason! And i thought i heard they had just disbanded for a break, nothing to do with reading festival performance! And Anthony had a kid too so he needs time with his new family!Lotta smart people down leaving comments here about how amazing they are and how they're people too and also need a break!

This band are still Awesome, there sound is massive and there love for what they do and give back is so cool, none of your too cool for school attitude from them, JF has released some truly great solo records in the past few years on top of all the RHCP releases. Can't understand all the negative stuff on here about them - they create a energy around there music which transends, shame some of the people who have commented here can't tap into that energy and be more positive. Long live RHCP - can't wait for the next album and tour.

the comment that said stadium arcadium was shocking is retarded!!!man that had some of the best guitar, bass, drums, lyrics, and sraight up good beats of all time!! Their older albums are fantastic but they really stepped it up for this one!! i love how solo happy john went with the album and the album should also go down as another historical one for them!!!As for all the haters, man go listen to something else if you can;t handle the peppers!!! And their decision for a break is greatly honored and respected cause hopefully when they come back their music will be half as good as it was on stadium arcadium or by the way or californication!!!! long live rhcp!!!
