Radiohead ask fans to reconsider how they get to gigs

Band are encouraging fans to consider public transport or car shares

Radiohead are appealing to fans to think about how they travel to and from shows.

The band are encouraging fans to consider public transport or increased car sharing following a analysis of the environmental damage done by their last tour.

In 2007, the band commissioned carbon footprint analysts Best Foot Forward to calculate the carbon impact of two of their US tours from 2003.

The report showed that fan travel to and from the shows makes the greatest impact on the CO2 generation of a tour, something which is now widely accepted across the industry.

The band have booked city centre shows with good transport links to make it easier for fans to get out of the car.

The band's website Radiohead.com has been set up offering travel information to the venues.

Fans can plan their journey by visiting an online calculator, which shows the CO2 generated by different methods of transport.

The band's production crew will also be posting information on how the band are trying to reduce their own touring carbon emissions without compromising the quality of the shows.

The band's UK tour calls at the following venues:

London Victoria Park (June 24, 25)
Glasgow Green (27)
Old Trafford Lancashire County Cricket Club (29)

I think maybe a park easier to get to then Victoria Park would have helped... it's an absolute nightmare travelling there by bus to get there! If I had a car I think I'd drive it.

Don't most people use public transport, like the underground or the buses to get to gigs already....?I know I will when I go see them in June! =DDDGood on Thom for being more enviromentally concerned though, he's like Bono or Bob Geldof...but the only exception is, you don't want to punch his face!

Someone ask Yorke how he and his band plan to travel. If they're coming to the U.S., maybe he can ring Aladdin and borrow his magic carpet.

Yeah, good luck getting Americans out of their cars. Since I moved here, I noticed their almost fetishistic regard for their four-wheeled friends. And I do understand it to some extent, everything's so spread apart here as they have the land for it, but major cities have decent public transport. Certainly Chicago, where I am; New York and Washington DC.
