Prince brings London residency to spectacular close

Prince brought his 21 date residency at O2 Arena in London to a spectacular close last night (September 21).

Watched by fashion designer Matthew Williamson’, the singer captivated the crowd with a medley of classic hits which included ’Diamonds And Pearls’, ’U Got The Look’, ’Kiss’ and ’1999’.

Appearing through smoke from under the stage at precisely 8.30PM, the white suited star launched straight into a whistle stop medley of ’I Feel 4 U’, and ’Controversy’, before swiftly delving into 1991 single ’Cream’.

After declaring that he had “more songs than the 21 number on my back”, the pint sized star also covered classic 1978 disco hit ’Le Freak by , to the delight of the glow stick waving crowds.

Treating fans to an encore of ’Nothing Compares 2 U’ and ’Raspberry Beret’, the singer asked the dancing arena, “Haven’t you got a train to catch?” before declaring he’d play for as long as the crowd were still there.

But after a second encore of ’Girls and Boys’, a little over two hours after he first appeared on stage, the show finally came to a close.

Later in the evening, both Amy Winehouse and Beverley Knight teamed up with the singer for his aftershow performance at 02's Indigo venue.
