The Stooges also receive a nod

Metallica have been nominated for induction into to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, along with Run DMC, The Stooges, the Hall announced today (September 22).

Also nominated for induction into the Hall are Jeff Beck, War, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony And The Imperials, Bobby Womack and Chic, who were also nominated last year.

These nominees join the elite ranks of other Hall of Fame members including Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Blondie.

The artists will be honoured at the Hall's 24th Annual Induction Ceremony, set to be held April 4 at the Public Hall in Cleveland. Tickets to the ceremony will be made available to the public for the first time.

The honourees are nominated by approximately 500 musicians, industry professionals and journalists.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is located in Cleveland, Ohio and began annually inducting artists and members of the music community in 1986.
