Band say they don't mind though...

Metallica's forthcoming new album, 'Death Magnetic', has leaked online after allegedly being sold before its September 12 release date in a French record shop.

According to Blabbermouth, fans on the continent got hold of the new album and posted pictures of the artwork, which is available to see on the website.

Despite the leak, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said he wasn't too concerned about losing sales. "Listen, we're ten days from release," he told US radio station Live 105.

"I mean, from here, we're golden," he added. "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy."

Metallica recently announced details of an intimate London show set for September 14. They recently made a 'Death Magnetic' song, 'Cyanide', available to download.

The songs themselves sound good, but the actual sound quality of it is terrible!

It just depends on which version you get. There are more than one versions of it out there. Some are better than others.Personally I think it better than St. Anger. They got rid of the steel drum and it sounds a lot more like their early stuff before the Black Album.I think Lars' view of fans getting the album early is only based on the very different world we live in now since the whole Napster thing. Back then it was about the fact that nobody was regulating it and there weren't any laws. Now if you do it then you are breaking the law. It wasn't about stealing music as much as it was about nobody caring that they were stealing music. Hey, I'll be honest and say that I've got a copy of the album already, but I'm also going to be first in line when it releases on the 12th just like I've been for every Metallica album release since Ride the Lightning. The guy who put the album on my iPod is going to be right there in line with me too. Some people just can't resist hearing something new from their favorite band as soon as it comes out. I'm glad that Lars understands the fans like he does.

I must comment about the sound quality many have mentioned 1) drums still sound 'poppy'2) vocals have been drowned out3) is the band in a garage?Maybe not their own fault, sometimes when you sign above the dotted line, you don't get exclusives on last sound edit or mix - many in the industry get their music bastardized by recording execs and marketers.I have tried using the basic wmp equalizer to adjust for this coming up with, imho, a fairly good sound. Try it out, and if you don't like it, adjust as necessary for your own great experience.wmp 11 equalizer settings (left to right):6, -5, 6, 4, -11, -10, -12, -13, -13, -9I'll be in stores to buy this if I can't pay them direct through paypal. Which in turn, I will still equalize before playing :)

In my opinion Metallica leaked Death Magenetic themselves. If someone had ripped the CD and made mp3s as they say, the sound quality would have been much better. The tracks sound distorted and this wouldn't have been caused from them being mp3s. On the other, most of the Death Magnetic mp3s on the internet have been made with low compression settings which allow for above average mp3 sound quality! - 320 kbs (which is better than 192 kbs for eg.) For the songs to have this poor sound quality, the source audio must have had poor sound quality. By doing this Metallica have achieved:1. Positive PR by telling everyone that they don't mind that this happened.2. Saturating the internet with these poor quality version of the album, so when it comes out the fans are forced to buy it to get a good quality version. It makes sense to me.

Have none of you ever heard a Rick Rubin produced album? They are allways oversaturated and fat and distorted. What you hear is what you will get from this album. I love the sound! Why does everything have to be polished like Nickelback or some platinum glam band. This album sounds like the last two System of a Down albums, down and dirty....Keep it up Metallica! Metal up your A$$!

hoolign69, what do you mean by oversaturated. Their are other reasons why I believe Metallica leaked Death Magnetic. This video explains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfcGLnuNqCM

this Album is better than Master of Puppets. There has to be some-one who says it. Don’t be scared, it really is THAT good! Kirk would be VERY happy
