Foo Fighters star tells heroes: 'Don't release music until it's kick-ass!'

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has written an open letter to Metallica, urging them not to release new material until it is "kick-ass".

In the letter Grohl inquires as to whether the band have completed drum parts for their new material – jokingly hinting that he has his eye on a part in the band.

The letter, posted on Blabbermouth, reads:

"Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mail order catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).

"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's fuckin' minds, because you're fuckin' METALLICA!

"Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.

"Yours, Dave Grohl.

"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?"

The record, the follow-up to 2003's 'St Anger', is due out in the autumn.

agreed, still believe The Colour and the Shape to be their best. However think he is right about St Anger, I absolutely hated it

I don't agree with you guys. I think Foo Fighters is the best rock band of the last 10 years. They rocks and they are also very friendly and funny. If you thinks Dave is a shit frontman I suggest you to watch them live, I'm sure you'll change your opinion.

THEEGGSTER is clearly off his rocker!!!, Dave Grohl a shit frontman!!!! I once did think the Foos were a shitty Nirvana rehash and it wasnt until the missus dragged me to a a Foo gig that i realised that the Foos and Dave are fucking imense. full stop. be it live or album wise. but hey, i agree with the fooman this nxt Metallica record better kick some ass cos they aint banged the head that doesnt bang for a long long time........

I have to agree that 'The Colour And The Shape' is the Foo's best album by far. I find myself really wanting to like their other albums, but never quite getting into them. That said, they are awesome live. I saw them at Leeds Town And Country Club on their first tour back in '95 and they rocked!I take sxpstl's point that Metallica have not banged the head that doesn't bang in a while, in that the last record was a bit of a let down. That said, there are some quality tracks on it like 'The Unnamed Feeling', 'Some Kind Of Monster' and 'St Anger'.Can't wait for the new album. Apparently it is gonna be similar in style to 'Master Of Puppets'.

Haha. Agreed with most of what's been said. Foos have done better stuff than Nirvana, but then Foos have had much more chance. The first 3 foos albums were great. And as good as Nirvana were, The Colour + The Shape smokes any of their albums.........
