Music tips and weird scenes revealed in Myspace survey

Myspace have attempted to predict the acts, genres and scenes which they believe will be big this year by analysing what their users have been up to.

The social networking site has trawled through facts and figures from its network coming up with a list of what they think will be hot in 2008.

The site’s study, Myspace08, has highlighted Toystep/Joystick Jungle, Bassline, Tape Music, Acousmatic, IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) and Screamo as genres set to be most popular this year.

The survey also suggests that "new ravers" and "new romantics" are mixing to create a new scene of Super Super Kids, while fans of grime and indie are apparently turning into Grindies.

Dressing as twins with your friends is also another trend that's going to be big, dubbing it "Double Dressers".

Artist-wise Shockwaves NME Awards Tour band Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong (pictured) are tipped as one of the top ten new bands for 2008. The full list of acts predicted to make it big are:

1. Partyshank
2. Peggy Sue And The Pirates
3. Riuven
4. Naz T Da Younger
5. Tape Deck
6. Conan and Mockisans
7. Ebony Bones
8. Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong
9. Dead Disco
10. Make Me A Model

Explaining how the survey was constructed Dom Cook, Myspace's Head Of Music told NME.COM: “With 110m unique users worldwide, Myspace is the largest global social destination connecting artists and fans together like never before. The Myspace08 report examines the way we connect people, content and culture and identifies some interesting musical trends and genres that we'll be watching out for in 2008.”

i see nme were very up to speed predicting all these bands well done ... erm Joe Lean are the only band mentioned by you and theyre pretty regular indie. Partyshank are big anyway - dead disco, ebony bones, frankmusik, dead kids, kash, the coolness - heres what you should probably have been reporting on for the last 3 months - nice work New Musical Express Kate Nash Lovers

Glasvegas seem to have been missed off the list completely, let alone not sitting at Number 1 where they belong

I agree, glasvegas appear to have been missed completely.
However, this is just one guys opinon. Most probably judged by who has the most online friends. That counts for nothing.Half the bands i have in my friends i just accept because i feel sorry for them!

Why the hell would you dress up exactly the same as your mate? Although I can see the practicality in the sense that you could take turns in deciding what to wear resulting in a lot less hassle of a weekend.
Kids of today, eh?

Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong are the absolute epitamy of why the quality of music is turning shite... why are they hyped up, they'll never be remembered in three / four years time. Where are those inspiring bands, those iconic rock stars... where's my future!? I don't see it in any of those mentioned artists/bands.

What a shocking state of affairs the music industry finds itself in! NME do your job properly and promote music that will genuinley inspire a generation rather than any band that will shift a few thousand more copies of your magazine, that way we won't have to bare witness to anymore rubbish coming from myspace. Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong are typical NME hyped band, yes they will probably shift a few records, but we'll forget about them by tommorrow! Enough of this madness, NME once meant something to music fans, now its just become another corporate monkey!
Ra Ra Riot. Noah and the Whale. Emmy the Great. Johnny Flynn. Anyone?

joe lean and the jing jang jong, whats their overall contribution to music apart from being another manufactured indie band of tarts, bloody pretentious queers in "skinny" jeans, its not really about the music anymore because all of its crap, its just about being in a band, wearing a pair of bloody skinny jeans and making some crap music that will soon be forgotten. but its all about the image the image the image, well i tell you what, i bet you if they didnt dress like that, or have their hut cut in that sort of way, there would be nothing left, half the people wouldnt even pay attention to them, i bet you all their fans dress the same, its all bloody shallow and pretentious. the music is just sickening, it causes sharp pains in my stomach whenever my ears absorb disturbing chimes so called music on the radio, whats happened to the world, im gonna hang myself.
