Rhys says he hates the brass instrument

Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon frontman Gruff Rhys has said that he hates the saxophone – despite the instrument having a bit of a revival in 2008.

The likes of Mystery Jets, The Zutons and all use saxophones in recent material, but Rhys has said he finds the sound of it "vomit-inducing".

Speaking to Last.fm's new strand of videos, Presents he said: "I generally dislike the saxophone. I like saxophones if they're just doing basic notes, that’s fine. But saxophone solos I don't enjoy."

He added: "It has that vomit-inducing quality, it's a physical thing."

I play the saxophone, and I very rarely vomit. It is a genius instrument anyway...ask David BowieThis may be why this man is in Super Furry Animals and not a band worth my time.

I couldn't agree more. Brass in general has a huge capacity to be obnoxious if over-used.

I hate them too! But I love Mystery Jets, and the new album! How odd.... But I feel the sax solo in 'Two Doors Down' does ruin it a little!

The sound of the Sax does induce a bad gut feeling but I think Coltrane's Love Supreme is amazing though (once you get past the pain barrier). When David Bowie started using the sax, his music went drastically downhill. The instument can be amazing but very rarely!

Unlike super furry animals, David Bowie doesnt make consistently good albums. He may be ace but SFA have never put a foot out of place. Saxophones are like that loud annoying aunt at a family party.
