Chris Brown to remain on probation over Rihanna assault

Chris Brown will remain on supervised probation after a court rejected his plea yesterday (February 9) to end his probation term.

The singer was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labour after pleading guilty to attacking his then girlfriend Rihanna in their car on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Brown has completed an anger management programme as part of his rehabilitation and has been praised by various judges throughout his probation.

However Superior Court Judge George Lomeli told an attorney acting on behalf of Brown that though he agreed that the singer had behaved well, he should continue to regularly report to a probation officer in his home state of Virginia for another two years.

According to Billboard, Brown's Attorney Mark Geragos issued the request after Brown's probation officer wrote in a report that the singer has been truthful with officers, had passed all required drug tests and "had made great strides" while under probation supervision.

Brown will have a further progress hearing on July 10. He is scheduled to perform at this Sunday's (February 12) Grammy Awards ceremony.
