Alex James: 'Blur reunion may still happen'

Bassist revives hopes

Former Blur bassist Alex James has said that he would be "surprised" if the band never worked together at some point in the future.

James, singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree had been expected to reconvene in late 2007 to record new material, but despite meeting up as a foursome for a meeting the sessions never took place.

Rumours of a reunion have died down since, but today (May 21) James indicated that the possibility of a reunion is still not dead in the water.

The group have not released an album since 2003's 'Think Tank', which was recorded mainly as a three-piece after Coxon departed a year earlier.

"We're all pretty busy but I'd be surprised if it [a reunion] never happens," he told BBC 6 Music. "But I would be terrified if it was happening on Monday."

James was speaking at a photo exhibition on London's Trafalgar Square that is highlighting the environmental and social realities in Colombia of the cocaine trade.

they should give it a lot one more shot. it will be a shame if they didn't because from leisure to 13 (or even think tank) these lads have grown up and evolved so much in their music, unlike oasis who never really made a ground-breaking album since the last decade; and they are much more appealing to me than the whole bunch of post-punkers or boring bands who are out on the scene....so please damon!

It still amazes me that whenever anyone mentions Blur some half wit always brings Oasis into the equation. You can't make the comparison as there isn't any, Oasis let there music do the talking and will always go down as the better band. I do wish Blur would reform and do one last album, I get so fed up of seeing and hearing from music nerds who still crave them. Go on Damon put the nerds out of the misery, one last album!

To be honest, if I was in talks to reunite with a band that featured somebody as smug-looking and irritating as Alex James, I'd call it a day.All the ability in the world can't make up for Fat Les.

Why do people still keep thinking that reunion didnt happen because of Graham Coxon? Hes already said he'd like to, its damon that wasnt keen this time around. Anyway, it would be amazing if they do, i still think they've got a lot more to give - especially as a 4 piece again. And whats the point of reading and commenting on an article if you're not interested?

I was at the talk Alex did in Brighton last night as part of Brighton Festival and he was quite open when questioned about the reformation of Blur. To essentially confirm the above story, he hopes that it's a question of when not if. It would be also have to be as the complete four-piece. He was witty and charming throughout revealing - a likable guy obsessed with cheese. The only new thing I can add is that he also revealed that Blur were offered to headline Glastonbury this year - something he regrets didn't happen.

It would be amazing if this happened. Blur were and are an amzing band. They should do it on their own terms though, not reuniting just to play a greatest hits tour. As for mentioning their rivals or an Alex James project from ten years ago...get a grip.

I really hope they do get back together, but can Damon keep so many irons in the fire at one time?
