Alex Kingston hints at 'Doctor Who' return

Alex Kingston has hinted that she could return to Doctor Who.

The actress' character River Song was revealed as the daughter of Amy and Rory Pond last series, suggesting that her arc may have come to an end.

But speaking on The Graham Norton Show to promote her role in the new series of Upstairs Downstairs, Kingston suggested that she may well be back.

She said: "You may see her again. Who knows? Let's just say, Upstairs Downstairs and Doctor Who don't film at the same time time.”

Showrunner Steven Moffat previously suggested that the fan favourite could return, saying: "I don't imagine she’ll leave him alone now, not now she's made an honest man of him." In the series finale, River ‘married’ what appeared to be The Doctor, in fact the shape-shifting Tesselector robot.

Kingston also revealed that she had known the true identity of her character "for a very long time", saying. "I knew... for the whole of the last series. [The other actors] didn’t know and they were constantly trying to get it out of me. They discovered it in that episode [A Good Man Goes To War] when they read the scripts."

It was revealed this week that her character in Upstairs Downstairs, Dr Blanche Mottershead, would be involved in a lesbian storyline.
